CANA recognizes that our umpires are one of our most important resources. Therefore the "Umpiring Excellence" strategy is to assist umpires at all levels and stages to understand the requirements and processes involved in umpiring Locally, Nationally and Internationally.
To continue the progress of netball and to maintain CANA's position as a leading Association, Umpires must, along with all facets of the game, develop and push boundaries.
Assessment and Accreditation
To increase the number of accredited umpires at all levels.
To have a pathway for netball umpires which is fair and transparent.
Assessment and accreditation starts with the CANA beginner Award and is followed by the CANA Level 1 through Level 3 Awards. The USANA Award is the final step towards reaching International status as an umpire.
Education and Training
To assist umpires, and assessors, coaches and tutors in achieving their potential at the highest possible level.
To have netball umpires, assessors, coaches and tutors (practical and theory) who understand and apply official rules of the game in a professional and competent manner.
High Performance
To have netball umpires who are rated among the best in the nation.
To have elite umpires who are role models so that netball umpiring is seen as an exemplary choice.
To have netball umpires officiating to a high standard in all netball matches.
Mission Statement of the Umpires Committee
To be responsible for all matters pertaining to umpiring both at the association level and at the national level
To formulate ongoing policy with regard to development programmes, training schemes and their practical application
To act as a catalyst in giving unity of direction in all umpiring matters within the Association.
To promote and develop umpiring from 'Beginner' to 'USANA' level, by enhancing growth with specialist programmes, particularly for 'USANA' level umpires and candidates.
