Bombardier’s engineering teams have been given the freedom to explore a wide range of technologies in its quest to drive carbon out of air transport. The eye-catching blended wing design of its EcoJet technology demonstrator models may also prove to be a template for new business jets that could run on hydrogen and other new propulsion systems. Incremental reductions in carbon emissions might even come sooner than expected as proven new technologies are introduced to Bombardier’s family of private aircraft.

Eve has given a glimpse of what it will be like to travel in its four-passenger eVTOL aircraft by unveiling a full-scale cabin and flight deck mock-up. The company has also made changes to the electric vehicle’s configuration, with the eight rotors fitted on a wing and empennage instead of the previous wing and canard arrangement. The aircraft is due to start air taxi services in 2026, and Eve says it has already logged provisional sales for over 1,900 units.

At recent events in Europe, such as EBACE in Geneva and the World Air Traffic Management show in Madrid, China’s EHang has given many Europeans their first close-up look at its EH216 eVTOL aircraft. FutureFlight met with the company’s chief marketing officer, Andreas Perotti, and asked him how the company believes no-pilot-on-board air taxi services could transform public transportation in crowded cities with short-hop rides.
