POST SUMMER TOURNAMENTS
After a very exciting 2006 Summer League at the Netball Mecca, Lincoln Terrace Park in Brooklyn, CANA teams have continued just where they left off by showing dominance as they enter post season tournaments.
The first such tournament was the Elite 500 annual Rally which was held at The Harry Maze Park in Brooklyn on September 9th. This prestigious tournament which was open only to invited teams hosted four teams from CANA, namely Crusaders, St. Lucia Pitons, Typhoon and Volcanoes. The tournament, showed promise of excitement from the first game and the excitement continued through the fitness competition, the shooting competition and the final game. The end results were great for the CANA teams as they walked away with all but one of the side awards in addition to capping the top three places in the tournament. Results for CANA teams from the Elite 500 Rally are as follows:
1st Place: St. Lucia Pitons
2nd Place: Crusaders
3rd Place: Volcanoes
Most Valuable Player; Michelle Murray of Crusaders
Fitness Challenge: Victoria Appia of Volcanoes
Uniform Parade: St. Lucia Pitons

For tournament number two Crusaders A, Crusaders B, Senators1, Senators2, Senators Juniors, Sharecroppers1, Sharecroppers Juniors, Typhoon 1, Typhoon Juniors and St. Lucia Pitons all travel north to Hartford Connecticut for Solidarity’s rally with one goal in mind. Bring all the trophies back to Brooklyn!! A fate in which was accomplished in the Open division, but where we fell a little short in the junior division where our only placement was Typhoon Juniors who finished in third place, but in the open division it was again a clean sweep for CANA. Following are CANA’s results:
1st Place Open Tournament: Crusaders
2nd Place Open Tournament: St. Lucia Pitons
3rd Place Open Tournament: Typhoon
3rd Place junior Tournament: Typhoon
Best Shooter: Michelle Murray of Crusaders
Tournament MVP: Morna Francis of Crusaders
Junior MVP: Shelly Lynch of Typhoon
Finally we move way down south for tournament number three which is the Winners Open tournament which took place in Coral Springs Florida. CANA teams for this tournament were Crusaders for the all female tournament and Navigators Men’s Club for the coed tournaments. Results for CANA’s teams are as follows:
2nd place female tournament: Crusaders
1st Place coed tournament: Navigators Men’s Club
Though the summer season is over, the CANA teams who are fortunate to have an indoor facility for practice have began their winter routines. In addition CANA squads in the 16 and under, 18 and under and 21 and under age groups, as well as an open squad has began practicing with the intentions of entering any tournament which is held where these teams are invited to participate. We encourage you to continue to support those teams in whatever way possible, whether it is financially or morally as they prepare to keep CANA’s banner flying high.
CANA’s executive would like to congratulate all clubs and players for an exciting 2006 season and we do look forward to more progress in 2007.
